Top 10 Reasons To Wear Leg Warmers

By

If you grew up in the age of “Flashdance” and “Fame”, you remember legwarmers. They were the ubiquitous fashion statement of the 80’s. A ripped sweatshirt, a scarf in your huge hair and a pair of legwarmers were the uniform de rigueur. Fashionistas everywhere loved them. The trend slowly died out as the crazy 80‘s gave way to the more subtle fashion trends of the 90’s. Or, so you thought…

Legwarmers are hot again. At least, for the younger crowd. Check out why.

  1. If you dance, they never went out of style. In fact, many ballerinas wear leg warmers to keep their muscles warm as they loosen up on the barre and remove them once they begin to dance. Occasionally, you will see a dancer wearing just one leg warmer, which is to keep an injured leg warm and the muscles loose.
  2. Leg warmers are really cute now. In the past, a few solid colors were the only options but now the sky is the limit. They come in every pattern and color imaginable. Almost makes you wish you were young again. Almost.
  3. Leg warmers for babies are the best idea ever. No more pants stained and torn at the knees from crawling everywhere. And, better yet, no more chaffed little knees in the warmer months when your crawling baby wears shorts. Just slip a pair of leg warmers on those chubby little legs and they are good to go. Protected and stylish!
  4. As odd as this sounds, leg warmers for toddlers can help with potty training. I know, hear me out. Some experts support the idea of letting toddlers run around without a diaper to speed up potty training. The theory is that diapers and pull ups only delay the process; the sooner they realize the “feeling” and make the “connection”, the better. If you try this, leg warmers can keep those legs warm during the experiment.
  5. Determined not to be left out this time around, leg warmers for boys are now available. Not those sissy pink ones, mind you. They come in masculine stripes, soccer ball patterns and even with “transportation” themes. All boy. All good.
  6. Make a statement and set a precedent for future fashion endeavors… in pre-school? That’s right. It starts early and the pre-school set knows what they want and what looks good. Leg warmers for kids are all the fashion rage.
  7. If you want a stash of cool baby shower gifts, look no further than baby leg warmers. In fact, if they were giving out awards for the best baby shower gifts, you would win. They always get plenty of oohs and aahs from the crowd because they are so stinking cute!
  8. No matter how many kids you have, every newborn seems especially tiny. Getting tiny little clothes on and off that tiny little body can be nerve-racking, especially for new moms. Newborn leg warmers can make the whole process much easier. In fact, they completely eliminate the need for pants and speed up the diaper changing process. No cumbersome pant or pajama legs to wiggle them out of, just swap out diapers and go.
  9. One size fits all. Those cute little newborn leg warmers from above are meant to fit until grade school and beyond. They are designed to reach up to a baby’s hips and, as they age, will fit lower on the leg. Considering how fast kids outgrow most clothes, this is genius.
  10. They are inexpensive. I mean, for a piece of clothing that is useful, fashionable and long-lasting, leg warmers for kids are a bargain for budget-conscious parents.

There you have it. That’s all I can say on the topic because I need to finish buying my children leg warmers. I have three daughters who love clothes and two upcoming cute baby shower gifts to buy. They are all too cute. Decisions, decisions.

What a great idea for little ones! Can't find them around here but they look good. Hubby read this over my shoulder and now he wants a pair. Good for martial arts and all that.
